Are Minorities Targeted to Be "Gangsta, Gangsta"?
The Blackweel- Synergy's Journal of communication has conducted a sample survey, why are minorities targeted to play "nitty gritty gangsta" roles in movies and on the telly? The authors, Dixon and Linz , conducted the project. The project's jist was to watch several different news programs on Orange County,CA television to get a ballpark figure of how blacks, latinos, and whites are conveyed as law breakers or enforcers. like we could have all guessed, the anwer looks a little like this : Blacks and Latinos vs .Whites. The news most frequently portrayed minorities as committers of crimes and as offenders . Even worse, it even goes to the marrow of minorities. Blacks are more than likely to play these roles on television, than Whites and Latinos. These portrayal rates , in the authors' views dont co-relate with L.A.'s crime rate; more Latinos are likely to commit crimes than Blacks. When the findings from the T.V were compared, overall, the results show that majorities are three times more overrepresented, Latinos-underrepped, and Blacks, neither. Is it better for a Balck person the be a crackhead than a White? Why , aren't they both crackheads?? Contemplate this before you see that "gory gangsta" flick this weekend.
